Federal Lead and Copper Rule
Orange Vale Water Company (OVWC) complies with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule, which was established to protect public health by reducing lead and copper levels in drinking water. The water provided to our customers is regularly tested and meets all federal and state water quality standards, including those for lead and copper. Recent revisions to the rule require that all water systems develop an inventory to identify the materials of service lines connected to the public water distribution system. The inventory must include all service lines connected to the public water distribution system including the portion of the service line owned by the water system and the customer-owned portion of the service line. OVWC has compiled this inventory using historical data from system records including distribution system maps and drawings, records on each service connection, meter installation records, inspection records, historical capital improvement plans and project as-builts, building codes, construction specifications, and standard operating procedures. OVWC also identifies and tracks service line materials in the inventory as they are encountered during its normal operations (e.g., checking service line materials when reading water meters or performing maintenance activities). This analysis has found no lead service lines or fittings in our distribution system.
